"I came across this Web site by accident and am glad that I did. The customer service has been great in helping me make intelligent decisions for my purchases. I have been using the small Linear Gravity Pillow for a few weeks now for regular sleeping and love the way it feels. I started for the first week using the side where the neckroll is smaller. I then switched to the side that is slightly larger. I mainly use it for laying on my back, but I find it is equally comfortable in the sidelying position. I have noticed that my upper trapezius muscles are less sore/tense and that the twinge I would feel in my neck when rotating it sideways has decreased. The radiculopathy in my fingers has lessened slightly. I have C4-6 mild disc bulges, central canal stenosis and foraminal compromise. It has affected my finger function for what I need to do to earn a living. I was so impressed with this pillow and the hope that I can continue my career plans and avoid surgery. Today I purchased the Cervical Traction Neck Pillow and the Pronex Pneumatic Cervical Traction unit." -M.S

X-rays are a very important tool for looking at your spine- When looking at a front view X-ray of your neck (cervical spine) and low back (lumbar spine), the spinal bones (vertebrae) must be straight up and down. The bones must not be rotated nor tilted and no curvatures (scoliosis) should be present.
The side view X-ray must reveal three 63-degree arcs- 3 "C" Curves. The most important arc is in the neck (cervical spine) and should range between 34 and 43 degrees between C1 and C7 (the first and last cervical vertebrae). This cervical arc is known as the “Arc of Life” because mental life impulses travel directly from the brain down this part of the spinal cord to bring life to the rest of the body. Losing your Arc of Life causes the most severe obstruction to the brain, spinal cord and nerves, also known as the Central Nervous System (CNS)
If your CNS is unhealthy, you cannot become truly healthy by exercising or eating right alone. You can be healthier, but you cannot be at “normal” or optimal. Any “abnormal” position of the spine, misalignment of the bones, or any changes in these curves indicate a serious problem. It is absolutely vital to understand this point--any changes from “normal” will interfere with and eventually damage the Central Nervous System. Interference and damage to the Central Nervous System will always result in “abnormal” function of the body, improper healing, and poor, abnormal, or less than optimal health.
“ … Posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to hormonal production.”
--C. Norman Shealy, MD, Roger K. Cady, MD, et al; APJM, 1994, Vol.4p. 36
Normal Neck Curve
Loss of C-Curve in Neck ("Military Neck")
When bones of the spine lose their normal position or motion, sensitive nerves and blood vessels to the head can be affected. When spinal nerves and related tissues are stretched or irritated they can symptoms such as headaches, neck pain, stiff neck and muscle spasms. Aspirin and medication may cover up these warning signs, but do not correct the underlying structural cause. Many patients with neck pain have lost the normal forward curve in the neck (also know as "military neck" or "loss of cervical lordosis"). Ultimately, this can affect the brain stem and spinal cord. Read about The Importance of Proper alignment of the spinal Bones
How does the Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow Work?
Pretend that the ball (below) is your head and the rods are the soft wedges of the neck pillow. Because of the simple laws of physics, the two soft wedges create a very gentle pull by diverting the downward force of gravity to a horizontal plane (away from your shoulders, thereby relieving the pressure between the bones of your neck).
Here is a video about how the cervical traction neck pillow works:
"I am so happy that I found Arc4Life. I hope they will never stop making their products. I bought a cervical neck traction pillow from them in December 2008 and now two months later I feel 95 percent better than before I started sleeping on the pillow. I had neck and lower skull pain when turning my head. Now I have better range of motion and am almost pain free. I can't wait to try their other products. Recently I ordered my daughter a healthy neck system because she suffers from migraine headaches."- Sharon.M - March 8, 2009 - Belen, New Mexico

Can I use the pillow every night and for the whole time I sleep?
Yes, the more you use the cervical neck pillow, the better it will be. However some individuals need to gradually increase the usage in stages because of some muscle soreness from such a change from their previous neck pillow.
We would recommend trying the neck pillow gradually, particularly for patients who have a lot of neck pain. Use the pillow for no more than one hour (maybe even for 1/2 hour) the first night, then increase the amount of time you use the pillow over the next couple of nights. You have to give your body a chance to get used the neck pillow. The soreness that may experience is normal, because the neck pillow puts your neck in the proper position (something you may not be used too). That is how we recommend our patients to use the Cervical Traction Neck Pillow. Alternately, you can use your regular sleeping neck pillow alongside the cervical traction neck pillow for the first few nights, until your head and neck adjust to a new pillow. It is very similar to using a traction unit or neck stretcher-- you have to let your body adjust to it gradually.
Is the Cervical Traction Neck Pillow comfortable to Sleep on?
YES! The Cervical Linear Traction Pillow is hand stuffed with the best polyester fiber available- its non allergenic and calibrated to the most universally accepted firmness for balance of softness and effectiveness. Use the traction side or the support side of the pillow, which ever one feels the most comfortable for your neck. You will find that the support side of the pillow is softer. The traction side of the pillow has is designed as a "v" with more stuffing, thereby giving you a gentle stretch in your cervical spine.
Sleeping on Your Back with the Cervical traction neck pillow
Sleeping on Your Side with the Cervical traction neck pillow
Why does this Cervical Neck Pillow have a special design?
The special “V” shape in the neck pillow, cradles your head and neck and gently lifts your head away from your shoulders (much like a massage therapist would do for you) at the same time the neck roll underneath supports your neck. While sleeping on your side, the generous, soft wings keep your head at the right height from the mattress, to relieve strain on your neck and shoulders. This neck pillow works for side sleepers and back sleepers. The pressure releases, neck muscles relax and pain goes away. This neck pillow is designed to work for back and side sleepers. Flip the neck pillow top to bottom to use the neck roll support only.
Why is having proper posture so important ?
Posture is your body's response to the stresses of daily activity while you are sitting, standing, walking or sleeping. It is the body's response to natural forces of gravity. Abnormal posture occurs when your body is not receiving the proper support in its struggle against gravity. It can cause tension headaches, overuse syndromes (like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome), prone to fatigability, decreased sports performance, and slower healing capacity after an injury. Not having proper posture creates tightness and stiffness in the upper trapezius and and shoulders. It can cause muscle spasms in the neck muscles like the cervical parapsinals or the suboccipitals.
Having proper posture depends on 3 factors:
- Skeleton and joints
- Muscles and soft tissues
- Messages your brain sends to your body
Over time, your brain and body may make some compromises on what is best for you by favoring short term positions such as slouching, and positions that allow you avoid painful movements. These may feel good in the short term but can lead the path to postural related problems in the future.

Arc4life has been helping consumers find the right pain relief products for neck and lower back pain since 2003 ! We receive testimonals and feedback every week from our loyal customers and patients. These are actual testimonials that we have received from customers who bought a Cervical Traction Neck Pillow.
Unique ergonomics--works for me- Due to neck pain, this is my 7th or 8th ergonomic pillow purchased over the yrs, and I kinda like it. It has a unique design that is quite comfortable/helpful for back sleeping. To sleep on my side, weirdly enough, it is more comforable if I flip it over and lay on the edges of the underneath side. Small price to pay though, in order to make it through the night. All other props and pillows that I used to go through on any given night are currently stuffed in the closet. I have Major Unfixable Problems with My Cervical Spine and I Vainly...Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow - I happened to come across this product while looking for something else. I have major unfixable problems with my cervical spine and I have vainly bought several neck products that look good but don't work. The bedroom is littered with pillow combinations and products. Much to my surprise, this pillow works great. I no longer wake up in stiffness and pain. It is now my permanent pillow. Best purchase I've made in a long time. Consoco (Boulder, Colorado), June 23, 2009)
Amazing I've suffered from two herniated discs in my lower neck since September. Got this a few weeks ago and practically from day one it actually worked. I sleep much more comfortably, even on my side (how do they do THAT?) but especially on my back. And my neck is greatly refreshed in the morning. I'm taking a trip soon, and I am bringing this pillow with me (other things will get tossed out of the luggage if need be ... leaving this behind isn't even an option).Daniel Hodel (Kona, Hawaii, June 23, 2009)
This pillow really works. I suffer from chronic pain, won't sleep without it- ew_spc (USA, April 1, 2009)
LOVE THIS PILLOW RECCOMENDED TO A FRIEND SUPER FAST SHIPPING THANKS!!!!- Mona (USA, January 4, 2009)
My headaches are few and far between
"It took me about a month also to get used to it (Cervical traction neck pillow). Now I love it. My headaches are few and far between. I used to have headaches 3-4 times a week. I could be laying on my side and feel my head start to hurt. But, I love sleeping on my side so I would just stay there and wake up with a terrible headache that would take me all day to get rid of. Now I can sleep on my side all I want. Headache free. Told my brother about it and he bought one. He could use it instantly and he called me and told me it cured him."- Nirav.P (India, October 16, 2008)
BEST pillow I have EVER tried
"I purchased the cervical traction neck pillow from you earlier this past week, asked for it to be delivered before I leave town, and received it ONE WEEK EARLIER than I asked for, 4 days earlier than projected by FED EX!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Not only that, this is by far the BEST pillow I have EVER tried! I have ordered 4 pillows claiming to reduce neck pain in the past 6 months from different distributors, and the cervical traction neck pillow is the only one that has succeeded. Thank you for your exceptional customer service, and your exceptional product.I will recommend you to ALL of my friends!!!!!!!" - Deidre Chang (Minnesota, January 5, 2008)
Cured myself
"I had neck pain along with tingling radiating down my arm to my index finger. Having had extensive experience with clients who needed physical therapy, I was fairly certain I had a cervical disk bulge/pinched nerve. I knew the routine with orthos and physical therapists and wanted to avoid spending both the time on office visits and the money, if at all possible. I stopped my usual exercise routines to give myself time to heal, took anti-inflammatories for a couple of weeks, bought this book and followed it religiously, and purchased an arc4life cervical traction pillow. In a matter of a few weeks, the problem was completely resolved and has not returned several months later. I have absolutely no pain and no restriction of movement. It is vital that you not do more harm than good by overdoing and/or improperly doing the exercises. Of course, if I hadn't seen improvement, I would have consulted a doctor. (BTW, I still sleep on the pillow and highly recommend it. It gets you past that unhappy routine of backsliding in the healing process due to sleeping wrong on the injury. It can be uncomfortable at first, so ease into using it as recommended. It literally provides light traction to the cervical spine when lying on your back and, if you move to the proper location on the pillow, provides excellent support while sleeping on either side."- T.Marchang (December 7, 2007)
Best Neck Pillow I have tried
"The first time I lay on the pillow, I could actually feel my sinuses drain immediately. My breathing during the night has improved substantially. Most importantly, the effect it has on my neck pain has been dramatic. I wake up with my neck completely relaxed. I am sleeping better than I have in months. My range of motion has improved. Everything just feels better. Another great thing about this pillow is its standard size and shape. It actually looks like a "normal" pillow on the bed (unlike all the other neck pillows I have tried."- J.L (Toronto, Canada March 2, 2007)
I've been in constant pain for months …
"I just want you to know that I'm totally satisfied with this neck pillow. I've recently had an MRI on my neck which showed impingement upon the spinal cord at three levels. I've been in constant pain for months, which has gradually escalated to the point that I'm taking pain pills in order to sleep at night. This morning, after sleeping on this neck pillow for the first time, I woke pain free. It was an amazing feeling! I didn't even realize that I didn't hurt at first - just knew something was different! Thanks so much for offering this pillow to the general public. I'm going to order another one for myself and one for my sister, also. You guys are the greatest! Thank you so very, very much!! " -C. Meyers (Lincoln City, Oregon 08/26/2005)
