"I came across this Web site by accident and am glad that I did. The customer service has been great in helping me make intelligent decisions for my purchases. I have been using the small Linear Gravity Pillow for a few weeks now for regular sleeping and love the way it feels. I started for the first week using the side where the neckroll is smaller. I then switched to the side that is slightly larger. I mainly use it for laying on my back, but I find it is equally comfortable in the sidelying position. I have noticed that my upper trapezius muscles are less sore/tense and that the twinge I would feel in my neck when rotating it sideways has decreased. The radiculopathy in my fingers has lessened slightly. I have C4-6 mild disc bulges, central canal stenosis and foraminal compromise. It has affected my finger function for what I need to do to earn a living. I was so impressed with this pillow and the hope that I can continue my career plans and avoid surgery. Today I purchased the Cervical Traction Neck Pillow and the Pronex Pneumatic Cervical Traction unit." -M.S

How does the Pronex Pneumatic Cervical Traction unit work?
The Pronex Pneumatic Cervical Traction unit is special because it cradles the reclining patient's head and neck on two soft foam cushions. One cushion supports the occiput (base of the head) and the other rests against the upper trapezius (upper shoulder area). An air-inflated bellows between them and provides more than 20 lbs of continuously adjustable traction. As the bellows expands, it lifts the head upward supporting the cervical curve and maintaining an even distraction (stretch) in the anterior (front) and posterior (back) cervical discs. Patients have total control over the amount of traction applied. Squeezing an inflator bulb increases the pressure, a release knob gently reduces it. There's no strain on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). [Back to the Top]
What's so special about the Pronex Cervical Traction unit? The special design of the Pronex Pneumatic Cervical traction unit gives anatomically correct traction. This cervical traction device supports the natural curve of the cervical spine (c-curve) and provides an even distraction in the anterior (front) and posterior (back) cervical discs. Why is cervical traction important? What is the rational for cervical traction?
Cervical traction relieves pressure by stretching the posterior muscular, ligamentous and connective tissue components of the cervical spine. It expands the intervertebral joint space, opening the intervertebral foramen. (Colachis & Strohm, 1965; Harris, 1977; Jackson, 1979; Cyriax, 1982; Trestle, 1988; and Wong, et al, 1992.) Pain caused by muscle spasm, nerve root compression, osteoarthritis or facet joint dysfunction often responds favorably to cervical traction therapy. (Matthew, 1972; Murphy, 1991; Rosomoff, et al, 1992.) However, patients with hypermobility or instability problems may not respond favorably to traction.[Back to the Top]
How does posture have anything to do with neck pain? Neck pain comes from pressure on the nerves. How does this happen?--Usually pressure from a misaligned neck spine. When your spine is misaligned (some call that subluxated) it does not move like it should and in turn creates inflammation in that area. Either out-of-alignment spinal vertebrae (spinal bones) put direst pressure on nerves or the inflammation, or built up degeneration causes the pressure.
The most common misaligned postural pattern in the neck that will result in neck pain, stiffness and lack of mobility is forward head carriage. This is when the head posture is forward of the shoulders and almost always reveals loss of the normal neck alignment or curvature.
In the neck spine we should have a well defined neck C-curve of approximately 40-60 degrees. Anything less and there is unwanted pressure on the nerves. Pain is often a sign that there is pressure on the nervous system but not all of that system is designed to feel pain so you may be pain free yet still have improper alignment.
With people today, more than ever we are seeing a misaligned neck posture of the neck curve flattening or straightening and protruding out forward. One of the reasons is that more and more people these days are on computers for long hours. Many jobs now require you to be on a computer continually, and even the people without a desk job are on the computer for hours on end; nights, weekends, mornings, you name it. *

What do your patient's think about the Pronex Cervical Traction unit?
I'm a 40 yr old radiologist who had a C5-6 fusion 18 months ago and was worse after surgery than before. My neck/scapular/shoulder and forearm pain had become intolerable and I had stopped upper body excercising and playing guitar. A desperate net search led me to try your product, which I've been using religiously for about 4 months, for 15 minutes, 3 times a day. Wow! This thing has given me new life and provided great relief of symptoms. Thanks! Morris Browman
I was scheduled for a C6-7 posterior discectomy, but after 5 days of using the Pronex traction device, my shoulder and arm pain completely disappeared! I cancelled the surgery, and I'm back to work. Thanks! Jill Andersen, RN, MSN Vascular Clinical Nurse Specialist
I bought a Pronex in February, and it has been extremely helpful in giving me relief from several vertebral problems I have. I use it every day, and the results are great. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that it was slowly beginning to lose air, and i would have to keep pumping it up to make up for the lost air. I called your number, and Customer service answered. They helped me through the process of figuring out what the problem was, and then told me he would send the replacement part to remedy the situation. He asked for my address and then said "will you be there tomorrow?" I asked, "You can get it here tomorrow?" He said, "Of course, we can't have a customer without his Pronex, that's unacceptable!" The replacement part arrived the next day at 10:30 AM!!! Not only do you have a great product, you back it up with outstanding customer service!!! Thanks Rich Gallagher
I was in a car accident and my van was totaled. I started going to a chiropractor and physical therapist and the chiropractor sent out for this for me. I used it everyday and my neck problems about after a few months were almost gone and now are completely. It's an awesome traction device. Melissa [Back to the Top]

Has there been any research done on the Pronex Pneumatic Cervical Traction Device ?
Research Studies on the Pronex Traction Unit:
- "From these encouraging initial results we have concluded that Pronex use is a very beneficial adjunct to conservative management for patients with a variety of cervical spine conditions. Especially significant is the apparent success we have experienced using this device with patients exhibiting chronic pain of spinal origin.". Arthur Nitz, Ph.D., PT, OCS, ECS Click here for a full synopsis of this research study.
- "For the independent, self directed person, the addition of the Pronex to their options for handling spinal dysfunction is welcomed. We see many persons using Pronex rather than medications, or repeat courses of physical therapy. In addition, regular application of this device often leads the user to increased awareness of muscular tension and postural imbalance." Ann Lawson, PT Click here for a full synopsis of this research study.
- "To compliment the rehabilitation section of our Cervical Spine symposium program we were in search of a device that could provide the benefits of axial traction to the cervical spine while improving and supporting the normal cervical lordosis. After reviewing numerous products on the market, we chose Pronex." Dr. Christopher J. Colloca Click here for a full synopsis of this research study.
- "The authors conclude that all the devices tested were capable of distracting the cervical spine, attaining greater separation at the posterior disc height than the anterior....Based upon the survey results, it appears that the Pronex device is the clear choice among the subjects tested. It scored favorably above all the other devices." Journal of the Neuromusculoskeletal System Click here for a full synopsis of this research study.
