"I came across this Web site by accident and am glad that I did. The customer service has been great in helping me make intelligent decisions for my purchases. I have been using the small Linear Gravity Pillow for a few weeks now for regular sleeping and love the way it feels. I started for the first week using the side where the neckroll is smaller. I then switched to the side that is slightly larger. I mainly use it for laying on my back, but I find it is equally comfortable in the sidelying position. I have noticed that my upper trapezius muscles are less sore/tense and that the twinge I would feel in my neck when rotating it sideways has decreased.The radiculopathy in my fingers has lessened slightly. The Case of Neck Pain because of "Pinched Nerves"
The reason people suffer from pain systems is pressure on nerves or nerve root irritation on the spinal cord. When we have pinched nerves in the neck or upper back some of thoses common aches and pains are not only neck discomfort but can be severe neck pain or upper back pain, shoulder pain, muscle tension, headaches, arm pain, pain radiating from the neck to the arms and hands. The nerves of the neck supply mainly the upper parts of the body (neck, arms and hands, fingers). Pinched nerves, depending on what spinal level and the severity of the nerve pinch or pressure and which fibers in each nerve root determines what kind of pain symptom one may get. It may just be upper neck pain, it may be burning pain, it may be tingling in the hands, it may be headaches in the back of the skull. It may be even more serious. Those nerves also communicate to our ears, eyes, nose, sinuses, glands, etc; important parts of the body we just expect to work 24 hours a day or 7 days a week.
Keeping the spine in its best alignment keeps the nerves from being pinched and keeps the nerve supply at 100%. Nerves free of interference equals a spine free of pain.
The levels of the neck spine are cervical bones 1 through 7. (C1, C2, C3, C5, C6, C7), The upper thoracic or upper back pain/ dorsal levels 1-4 (T1, T2, T3, T4).
A proper neck support pillow helps get rid of pinched nerves. Traction neck systems maintain the proper lordosis in the spinal column. Continual use of a good neck support will allow the cervical spine to stay in alignment keeping nerve pain and pressure on nerves to a minimum.
Cervical neck traction has been utilized for many years for relief of pain associated with neck muscle spasms or nerve root compression. Traction is a medical technique in which opposite forces are applied to separate parts of the body to stretch soft tissues such as muscles, and/or separate bony structures. Cervical neck traction focuses on stretching the head away from the rest of the body to release tension and take pressure off of neck structures. It usually requires 2 minutes of sustained traction before the intervertebral spaces begin to widen. Forces between 20 and 50 pounds (PSI) are frequently used to achieve intervertebral separation. Cervical traction can be performed for a Duration of a few minutes to 20 to 30 min. You can do traction once or twice weekly to multiple times per day.
A variety of cervical neck traction devices are available for use in the home. The most commonly used device uses an “over the door” design, in which a patient wears a chin strap harness attached to a counterweight that is suspended over the door using a pulley system. The weight pulls the chin harness upwards, relieving tension on the neck. Other variations of this device include frames which attach to a headboard or freestanding units. “Over the door” units are designed to deliver no more than 20 pounds of tension. Pneumatic devices are also available that push up the head while pushing down on the shoulders. One such device is the Pronex® Pneumatic Traction Unit, which consists of a soft foam cushion that extends from the patient’s shoulders to the back of the head (occiput) and is secured with a head strap. A patient-controlled bellows then inflates the cushions, thus applying up to 20 pounds of tension.

I was diagnosed years ago with a "military neck", that is, with no c-curve in my neck. It has caused a variety of problems with my head and upper back.
